Dr. Jessica Marie Johnson

Wicked Flesh: Black Women, Intimacy, and Freedom in the Atlantic World. The book takes a transnational approach to archival work by exploring the lived experiences of Black women from Senegal to Spanish Cuba to the Gulf Coast. In addition to being a WashU Mellon alumna, Dr. Johnson is a historian, digital humanist, and assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University.
