Minors Engaged in Selling and Trading Sex: Risks, Predictors of Entry, and Missed Opportunities to Intervene.

Dr. Andrea N. Cimino

Abstract: In this anti-trafficking lecture, Dr. Andrea N. Cimino presents a comprehensive overview of the commercial sex industry including indirect forms of sex work (i.e., stripping) and direct forms such as sex trafficking, street prostitution, and escorting. Dr. Cimino will present her research on risks and predictors of entry among minors engaged in selling or trading sex in Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada. The lecture will conclude with a social ecological view of missed opportunities to intervene.

 

Bio: Andrea N. Cimino, PhD, MSW is a Faculty Research Associate at the Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing. Her research focuses on gender-based violence with a specific focus on women engaged in street prostitution and the prostitution exiting process. Dr. Cimino holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in Social Work from Arizona State University.
