This course examines the radical transformation in the position and perspective of European women since the eighteenth century. The primary geographical focus is on Britain, France, and Germany. Topics include: changing relations between the sexes; the emergence of mass feminist movements; the rise of the 'new woman;' women and war; and the cultural construction and social organization of gender.
